On the 1st March 2007 the Border and Immigration Agency published its consultation paper ‘Planning Better Outcomes and Support for Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children’. The consultation paper identified a number of key areas for improvements to the immigration and care support arrangements for unaccompanied asylum seeking children. The proposals set out in the paper reflected a widespread consensus on the need for changes to the current arrangements for this group of young people, with a particular need to safeguard children at the same time as managing the immigration system effectively.
