2009 has been a juncture and transition period for Terre des hommes in Albania with the ending of TACT III (Transnational Action against Child Trafficking) and the starting of the new ‘Child Protection Safety Net’ project (CPSN). TACT III was the third stage of a transnational project to fight trafficking of Albanian children especially between Albania and Greece based on a strategy developed in 2002 supported essentially by USAID. During the three years of implementation of the last phase of TACT (June 2006 – May 2009), a total of 4810 children and 717 families have benefited from the support services provided by Tdh and its partners.
The new project “Developing a Child Protection Safety Net” (CPSN) started in October 2009 and will last until April 2012 with the goal to enhance institutional skills and capacities of the Albanian government to fulfil their own responsibilities to protect children from trafficking and other forms of abuse, violence, exploitation or neglect according to national standards.
This newsletter is the first of a series highlighting some of the main achievements of Tdh and its partners in developing a child protection safety net in Albania.
