Does every child matter? Children seeking asylum in Britain
|
|
This report looks beyond the words of the Code at what is really happening to children seeking asylum. It highlights extensive bad practice and identifies breaches of the Code which are already occurring. As importantly, it highlights crucial welfare issues such as disputes about the age of children claiming asylum – not currently covered at all by the Code. Our conclusion is that the Government is failing in its commitment to protect these most vulnerable children and is falling short both of its own aspirations and of most peoples expectations of a fair and humane system. The report documents the real experience of children within the asylum system.
