How to Use a Trafficked Woman: The Alliance between Political and Criminal
|
|
Dr. John Davies’ paper argues that the migration agendas of women from
countries of origin have been mostly ignored in the design of anti-trafficking
interventions. The paper posits that trafficking in the European Economic Area (EEA) has been co-opted as an
immigration control measure, intended to disrupt the various spaces shared by
trafficking and irregular migration networks. Furthermore, migration policies have deliberately created and sustained the spaces in which
organized crime can exploit trafficking and reconstruct high risk environments for women.
Therefore, resolving many trafficking harms in the EEA should be the improvement of migration policy rather than
fighting organized crime.
