Kosovo 370 wishes of children visible in the sky of Prishtina

Project : Kosovo 22 Nov 2011 birth registration child rights

2695_kosovo_baloons_smallPrishtina, Kosovo, November 21st 2011: In order to promote children’s rights in Kosovo on the occasion of the International Child Rights Day, Terre des hommes Kosovo in close collaboration with its partners from local authorities and NGOs, organized an artistic program for children and a balloon release, in order to raise the awareness of children about their rights.

A total of 370 children participated in this event including children from primary schools, children from communities and children with special needs.

After the artistic program, each child had to make a wish and write it down on a small card attached to his/her balloon. All children were then gathered outside of the theater where they released their balloons all together. Around 370 wishes of children were visible in the sky of Prishtina.

Ahmet, 9 years old, watched his balloon float up. While many wishes of children were related to material concern, as having more toys, “the wish Ahmet attached to its balloon was a birth certificate in order to be registered at school, which nearly broke my heart!” said the head of one NGO who took part in the event.

The organization of this event has been possible thanks to a strong commitment and collaboration of teachers and teenagers, and thanks to the Municipality of Prishtina who generously put at disposal the venue to allow the organization of such an event. [SH]
