Kosovo A memorandum of understanding with Kosovo Police to protect vulnerable children

Mr. Behar Selimi, General Director of Police in Kosovo, hosted in an official meeting the Delegate and Advocacy Officer of the delegation of Terre des hommes. They signed a memorandum of understanding for the protection of children in Kosovo through the implementation of the project “Development of Child Protection Safety Net” from 2010 to 2012. This cooperative agreement is as a continuation of previous agreements and the result of close cooperation with the Kosovo Police.
The purpose of this agreement is institutional strengthening and coordination through the application of case management system and the organization of preventive activities through a functional working group (Task Force) in seven regions of Kosovo: Pristina, Prizren, Mitrovica, Peja, Gjilan, Ferizaj and Gjakova.
The police units that will continue to work closely with Tdh Delegation in Kosovo are community units, sector against domestic violence and child abuse, and department against trafficking in human beings. Terre des hommes Foundation will cooperate with representatives of police units within the Task Forces on the cases of children by supporting the identification, referral, management, reintegration and monitoring.
Categories of children taken in charge by the Task Forces will be children at risk of exploitation and trafficking mainly for illegal activities and forced labour (begging, sales of small items in the streets), at risk and victims of physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect. From this agreement will benefit also children in conflict with the law, children with asocial behaviour and children pushed into delinquency from third parties. [AK]
