Tdh Kosovo, in close collaboration with Open Gate – La Strada in Macedonia, did an assessment mission in Skopje last winter.

A large number of children were identified in the streets of Skopje and this could be considered as a risky situation for child exploitation and trafficking.

Since the Kosovo crises and internal conflicts occurred in 2001 and the uncertain status and security position has increased the families’ movements and led to problems within families, domestic violence which makes children more vulnerable. Border controls between Kosovo and Macedonia are problematic.

This Assessment is the first step to understand the children exploitation phenomena in Macedonia and further research and street work will be needed to analyze reasons and forms of exploitation. The assessment mission has been implemented in the framework of TACT Project (Transnational Action against Child Trafficking).
