‘The Sofia Echo’ reports that Athens police arrested three Bulgarians who were brokering the sale of Bulgarian babies in Greece. The group was arrested while allegedly in the process of exchanging an infant for money. The head of Greece’s department fighting human trafficking said that the ringleader of the group persuaded women to become pregnant, or who were pregnant, to then go to Greece to give birth in public hospitals. After the babies were born, they were sold to childless Greek families, allegedly for about 1000 leva (about 500 euro).
