Bulgaria Bulgaria strives to end plight of abandoned children
24 Jun 2010 |
‘AFP’ reports that Bulgaria adopted a law in October, allowing children who have spent more than six months without their parents taking them back, can be put up for adoption without the parents’ approval. The law was passed in an effort to decrease the number of children growing up in institutions. The government plans to shut all 27 institutions for children with serious disabilities and will create daycare centres, allowing parents to work during the day but live with and care for their children at home. Almost 98% of children abandoned have parents in Bulgaria.
