Switzerland Cabinet wants to tighten prostitution law

18 Aug 2011 | child rights sexual exploitation

‘Swissinfo’ reports that the Swiss cabinet is planning to change its law making it unlawful to buy sex from a minor. Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga said it was a question of strengthening the protection of minors. Currently there are no legal restrictions on working as a prostitute or using the services of a prostitute in Switzerland from the age of 16, but Switzerland signed a Council of Europe convention last summer that requires signatories to implement such a ban.
