Kosovo Children on the stage for the International Day of Child Rights
Project : Kosovo 29 Nov 2010 | child rights
Prishtina, Kosovo, November 19th 2010 : In order to promote children’s rights in Kosovo on the occasion of the International Child Rights Day, Terre des hommes Kosovo in close collaboration with its partners from local authorities and NGOs, organized three shows for and with children, in order to raise the awareness of children about their rights. Children offered artistic performances on stage, such as dances, songs, theatre, poetries and essays. Each performance was linked to one of the articles of the International Convention on the Rights of the Child.
A total of 1’230 children participated in these shows in three municipalities where Terre des hommes is supporting the Task Forces to protect children at risk: Prishtina, Mitrovica and Gjakova. Beside children from primary schools and children from communities, children with special needs also participated both as spectators and as performers on the stage. Several groups of children also prepared drawings expressing their vision of Child Rights, which were displayed as a small exhibition in parallel to the show.
The organization of these three shows has been possible thanks to a strong commitment of teachers and school directors. The Directorates of Culture, Youth and Sports, and that of Education as well as Task Force members gave their support.
Mixing different groups of children – in the audience as well as on the stage – was one of the objectives of this special day, in order to show children that they all have the same rights. Terre des hommes and its partners recognized that there is still work to do in this field and have decided to focus on future activities integrating children from different backgrounds. [KV]
