Kosovo Children's Rights Day

171__kosovo__children_s_rights_day_0_small Prishtina, Kosovo: On June 1st, Children’s Right’s Day was celebrated all around Kosovo with happy children dancing, playing, and singing. Some particular cities where this day was celebrated worth mentioning are Prishtine, Fushe Kosove, Gjakove, and Peja, and in all these regions the activities were organized and supported by the city’s Municipal Directorate of Education.

In the capital city, there were different activities such as dancing, instrumental music, and singing choir. In this cultural recreative festive program the participants included 15 elementary schools of Prishtine, the ballet school, the guitar school, the dancing group, and the choir group, Municipal Directorate of Education in Prishtine and Terre des hommes.

In Fushe Kosova with the support of Terre des hommes, OSCE and NGO-Balkan Sunflower a variety of activities were conducted, such as rising children’s self-awareness, self-confidence and conflict resolution. At the end of the games there was also a program with singing, dancing and intonating poems by the children. The participants included Kosovo Police, OSCE, Balkan Sunflower and Terre des hommes.

172__kosovo__children_s_rights_day_1_small In Gjakova this festive day was entitled Children’s Festival Scene. With the help of Municipal Directorate of Education an NGO within the National Theater called animators of Emin Duraku organized this event. Each school prepared and performed a theater play. At the end of the show, prizes for the best actor/actress and best show where handed out. The participants included 40 elementary schools from Gjakova and from the region of Gjakova, Municipal Directorate of Education in Gjakova and Terre des hommes.

In Peja the activities were of a different nature. The Municipal Directorate of Education in Peja in collaboration with different schools of Peja created an Assembly for children. 41 children were participating to this Assembly and on this day their voices were heard. The children had a chance to address different problems of their generation, their ideas to treat them, and most important methods to protect their own right’s. The participants included Center for Social Work, Probation Service, School Psychologists, Municipal Directorate of Education in Peja and Terre des hommes.
