European Union EC to propose mandatory web blocking for child abuse sites

‘PCWorld’ reports that the European Commission will propose a directive obliging member states to block paedophile web sites. Critics however argue that blocking sites fails to eliminate the material that appears on the internet. Civil liberties groups fear that this will open the door to further blocking of materials on the internet-undermining efforts to encourage China and Iran to keep their internet open.
