Cyprus “Eradicating trafficking in human beings is a pressing need”

Human Rights Commissioner Hammarberg sent a letter to the Minister of Interior of Cyprus, calling on the government to step up efforts to eradicate human trafficking. While ‘cabaret artist visas’ have been abolished, other types of work permits might be used to circumvent the law. He also stressed the importance of awareness raising measures as well as curbing demand for prostitution.
