European Union European Commission Introduces More Protection For Unaccompanied Minors Travelling To The EU

6 May 2010 |

‘eGov Monitor’ reports that the European Commission adopted an Action Plan to increase the protection of unaccompanied minors in the EU, including common standards for guardianship and legal representation. The article lists the 10 main priorities of the Action Plan. Decisions should be made within 6 months and Member States should trace the families of the unaccompanied minors and carefully monitor their reintegration in their home society. If it is in the best interest of the child, Member States should find alternative solutions including granting international protection status or resettlement in the EU.
