Europe France's immigration policies come under criticism
13 Jul 2008 |
The ‘National Commission for the Control of Detention Centers and Reception Zones’ of France has launched a critical report about the French government’s treatment of unaccompanied foreign minors, among them, for detaining them at centers etablished at airports. The report is very much in line with statements of other international bodies, including UNCRC (United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child) for sending the children back to countries of origin without any consideration to the risk of exploitation they may be exposed to. According to the Commission’s report in 2006 “nearly 500 minors were kept in a holding area for an average of 3.5 days, after which 230 were sent back, 35 were allowed into the country as asylum seekers while 85 were described as having attained the age of majority".
