929_in_pursuit_of_good_practice_in_responses_to_child_trafficking_frontpage_2_smallExtract: Based on a set of seven criteria, a new report by the Terre des Hommes International Federation assesses what constitutes ‘good practice’ in the context of a wide array of efforts to prevent child trafficking. These efforts range from the collection of evidence about patterns of human trafficking; the provision of information and advice to children, parents and communities; the development of local level networks to protect children; activities to influence the media; activities to improve minimum standards to protect and assist child victims of trafficking, and the promotion of alliances to bring about change.

The study, written by Mike Dottridge, an independent consultant in the field of human rights, looks at a project implemented until February 2010 by five Terre des Hommes organisations and eight other partner non-governmental organisations in twelve countries over three regions of the world.

The report, aiming at sharing the project’s experiences about good practice with others active in the fields of anti-trafficking and child protection, will be launched officially in several events, in the presence of journalists:

  • In Southeastern Europe: Skopje (18 February), Prishtina (22 February) and Tirana (23 February),
  • In Southeast Asia: Manila (23 February),
  • In Latin America: Barranquilla (24 February), Bogota, Lima and Cochabamba (26 February).

The study will be downloadable, in English and Spanish, from the document library on the 23rd of February 2010.
