Bulgaria Hammarberg asks to make more efforts to protect rights of minorities, children

‘Focus Information Agency’ reports that Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg visited Bulgaria to assess the protection of minorities and disadvantaged children. He visited a Roma settlement, an institution for children with mental disabilities. He commented on the ‘inhumane’ living conditions of Roma and reiterated the importance of the enrollment of Roma children in schools, but he also acknowledged the progress made in ‘deinstitutionalization’.
