Hungary Human Rights Based Development Workshop of Minority Rights Group International
Project : Regional Office 18 Apr 2008 |
Budapest, Hungary – Between April 9-12 Minority Rights Group International held a training for New Member States NGOs on rights based development. From among the GREAT project partners the training was attended by representatives of PHO, Ekvilib and Terre des hommes – Child Relief.
During the four-day training experts from the Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda provided case studies and examples while resource people from UN agencies presented the evolution of the rights-based development approach. Participants discussed how access to water issues or lands rights can best be promoted in New Member States and how society can be made aware of human rights issues in Africa. The training was also attended by journalists who learned about development issues and provided input into the work of NGOs on how their activities can be better presented in the media.
As the training is part of a larger project funded by EuropeAid, the participants also have the chance to develop their own mini-campaigns in their own countries (5 is the minimum) for which there are some funds available. [JA]
