Europe Human Trafficking

17 Jan 2009 |

‘Polish Radio’ published an opinion piece about human trafficking – which was made topical by a recent case of a Ugandan woman who was lured into Poland with the promise of work and then enslaved. The author reminds readers that the Roma beggars on Warsaw streets are also most likely child slaves owned by larger rings of people. The author quotes that between 1997 and 2007 2’885 cases of trafficking were reported – but this number only reflects cases where the victim was able to make it to a police station. She also mentions La Strada as an NGO that provides assistance and shelter for victims of trafficking.
