Extract: This edition of the newsletter highlights the work undertaken by Panel members to raise child justice issues at the 18th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Vienna, Austria, from 16-24 April 2009.
On 21 April, the Panel Secretariat, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Defence for Children International (DCI) and Penal Reform International (PRI) held a side-event on “Crime Prevention for Children: Developments and Good Practices”. The discussion aimed to encourage collaboration between governments, civil society and criminal justice agencies to prevent children from coming into conflict with the law. Speakers provided examples of programmes, underlining lessons learned and good practices that uphold child rights.
