France Last goodbyes in a Roma Slum

29 Aug 2008 |

  • ‘France 24’ reports that the 24 families (about 80 people) who were selected to take part of St-Ouin’s integration scheme (see related news on the net) have moved to their new accommodation. St-Ouin’s slum (suburbs of Paris) is the biggest in France and will be destroyed to build council flat. The municipality will provide the 24 families with decent housing. In return, the chosen families had to sign up and agree to send their children to school. “I want to be like other French people” said Drezaliu a beneficiary. However, about 220 occupants of St-Ouin’s shantytown have been obliged to fly to Romania.
