Albania Launching of a Child Protection Unit in the Municipality of Durres

65__albania__launching_of_a_child_protection_unit_in_the_municipality_of_durres_0_small Terre des hommes – child relief in Albania launched on the fifth of February a Child Protection Unit in the Municipality of Durres, the second city of Albania after the capital Tirana. After the successful establishment of Child Protection Units in the Municipalities of Elbasan, Korca, Pogradec, Fier and Gjirokastra, a new one has been created in Durres, inside the structure of the Municipality, dealing directly with vulnerable children.

A TACT project staff will work in close collaboration with the Child Protection Officer of the Municipality of Durres. The added value will be the improvement of the services and the increasing number of cases of vulnerable children taken in charge.

Vangjush Dako, Mayor of Durres Municipality (here in the picture with Meme Xhaferri, Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, and Kelly Cronen, USAID Anti-Trafficking Advisor), Klodian Pajuni, Prefect of Durres District, and representatives of USAID, UNICEF and Hellenic Aid were present at the official ceremony. The Mayor and the Prefect congratulated the collaboration between the Municipality and Terre des hommes – child relief in Albania for undertaking such an important step in protecting children rights.
