Europe Leaving Roma children clueless and without cover
8 Jan 2009 |
‘Hurriyet Daily News’ reports that in the framework of an urban renewal project, in Istanbul the historical Roma neighbourhood “Sulukule” is being demolished, without any consultation with the people living there, or offering them alternatives. The project also includes the demolition of an NGO community center which has been providing art education to Roma children between 3 and 13. While the organisation has been trying to negotiate for a delay until they can find a new place, the municipality is firm in continuing its project.
