France, UK Lone child migrants returned to France under secret deal

17 Jan 2012 | asylum children on the move migration

BBC’ reports that a recent investigation by England’s children’s commissioner revealed that under a ’Gentleman’s Agreement’ with France, unaccompanied migrant children who are not seeking asylum are being returned immediately. While no numbers were available on how many, the investigation confirmed at least seven such cases in 2010. Returning vulnerable children goes against the border agency’s duty to safeguard children and promote their welfare. Immigration minister welcomed the report and said the main recommendation had been already implemented at Dover.
