Europe Mario presents at the XIIth ISPCAN conference

Tampere, Finland, September 18-21, 2011: Child abuse and neglect are issues which challenge practitioners, decision makers and researchers as well as parents, children and communities: whose responsibility it is to react, respond and care and how should it be done? This was the introduction of the 12th International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN) European conference on Child Absue and Child Neglect that took place between the 18th and 21st of September in Tampere, Finland.

Following a promising programme, partners of Mario decided to share their 3-year experience with practitioners and scholars and put possible responses against child trafficking on the agenda. Focussing on the importance of prevention, the Mario presentation, entitled “Responses against child trafficking: From direct action to structural approaches” allowed a debate on the evolution of the responses against child trafficking from 2000 until today.

The partners in project Mario wanted to share their knowledge, experience and concerns related to the action taken to combat a phenomenon that still is prevalent in Europe.

Four representatives of the project Mario attended and could exchange with participants in the conference in order to enhance partnerships and knowledge. More than 400 professionals of a variety of backgrounds, from renowned scholars to NGO practitioners and government representatives, attended the 3-day conference. [PC]
