Moldova Moldova To Temporarily Ban International Adoptions

Comments: According to the Radio Free Europe, after the arrest of one adoption official in Moldova two weeks ago, President Vladimir Voronin has proposed to ban the adoption of Moldovan children by foreign couples. In another article from the Moldovan News Agency ‘Moldpres’, the president defined this situation of adoption in Moldova as ‘revolting’, as it severely violates child rights. The head of state blamed the extreme corruption and existing gaps in the legislative framework in the adoptions field for the situation at hand. ‘Drastic measures’ such as temporary moratorium of international adoption was also initiated by the president.
