Finland Most online sex offences go unreported
28 Sep 2011 | internet sexual exploitation
‘Helsinki Times’ reports that according to a recent survey conducted by Save the Children Finland, online sexual harassment of children and teenagers is brought to the attention of the police extremely rarely. According to the online study, one-third of youths under the age of 16 reported having been sent sexually explicit messages, pictures or video material by someone significantly older than them. A similar proportion reported having been propositioned for sex by a stranger online. Young internet users generally keep quiet about the sexual harassment they experience online, with almost half of all respondents saying they never told anyone about it.
