Russia Ombudsman calls for tighter measures against child abuse

1 Jun 2011 | orphanage

‘The Voice of Russia’ reports on International Children’s Day about the state of Russian children. It mentions that currently there are 700,000 children in state care, some being called “social orphans”: children with both parents living, but from whom custody has been removed due to ‘immoral behaviour’. Children’s Ombudsman suggested that assistance should be given to parents to return to normal life and to have foster parents care for the children, rather than orphanages.
