Czech Republic Paediatricians protest infant homes' abolition

3 Oct 2011 | orphanage state care homes

‘Prague Daily Monitor’ reports that representatives of Czech paediatricians’ professional associations ask the health and labour and social affairs ministers to halt the prepared abolition of infant homes for children under three years. They consider the step premature and unprepared. The Labour and Social Affairs Ministry rejected the criticism by saying that the ministry wants children to be raised in families instead of ending up in institutions. Child’s doctors noted that they support alternative family care but they do not agree with abolishing the infant homes before creating a new system.
