UK Police may be given powers to question child suspects alone

25 Aug 2008 |

  • According to ‘the Guardian’ the British law enforcement authorities will have the opportunity to question children without their parents or relatives. The British ‘Home Office’ thinks that this modification is likely to reduce bureaucracy. In fact, the police would no longer have to wait for a parent, guardian or other relative to be present at the police station. In the future, the presence of an “appropriate adult”, that is to say a lay visitor, would be sufficient.
