Kosovo Police violence punished
29 Mar 2008 |
Last January, Kosovo police committed acts of physical violence on children begging in the streets of Pristina. The TACT Kosovo team learnt of these acts from the families and looked after the children concerned, one of whom had to be taken to hospital. Based on witness accounts from the victims and their families, a report was drawn up and sent to the ombudsman in charge of court matters relating to child rights in Kosovo. After talks between Tdh, the ombudsman and the internal control service of the Kosovo police force, an inquiry was opened and returned a verdict of guilty on two policemen, who have now been sacked. For Tdh, this was a small step towards improved protection of children at risk.
