Albania Poor women of Albania continue to suffer legal exclusion

‘Truthout’ reports- through the Women’s News Network- of the difficult situation of women in Albania who are fleeing domestic violence. While efforts have been made to improve their status, courts continue to discriminate them during divorce procedures, leaving them in very difficult economic conditions. The article was written around the story of a woman who fled her violent husband with her four children. Having no economic means she was living in a one-room hut, electricity and heating was cut due to payment arrears. The children died in a fire that was caused by a candle while the mother was working. It was only after this incident that protection services were alerted.
