Kosovo Project launched to promote improved juvenile justice system

Pristine, Kosovo, October 19, 2011: Terre des Hommes in partnership with UNICEF and with the support of the EC Liaison Office, has organized the launching of the project “Mobilization of Civil Society on Juvenile Justice System in Kosovo” (2011 – 2012).

The project “Mobilization of Civil Society on Juvenile Justice System in Kosovo” aims at increasing the knowledge of the Child Protection NGO Coalition, media representatives, professors and students from Prishtina Law Faculty on Kosovo’s Juvenile Justice System, as well as at ensuring the respect of children’s rights in the juvenile justice system – including offenders, victims and witnesses. In this direction the project foresees trainings, study visits and the development of research and new operating procedures based on best practices from European Union Member States.

This new project supported by UNICEF, is incorporated in the current CPSN project in the frame of strengthening the interventions towards children at risk of delinquency and those in conflict with the law.

The launch event was attended by 30 participants, representatives of different active NGOs working in the field of child protection and members of the NGOs Coalition on Child Protection, UNICEF, TDH and students from the Faculty of Law in the University of Pristine.

After the presentation, all the representatives evaluated positively the project as it will help to improve the mobilization of partners on preventing and protecting children from juvenile delinquency and to make the Juvenile Justice Activities one of the priorities of the NGO’s Coalition. (KV)
