Moldova Radio talk-show on child trafficking
22 Jun 2008 |
Tdh Delegation in Moldova and the Ministry of Social Protection, Family and Child were the main participants of the talk show, “Together for the future” broadcasted at Moldova national radio on 22nd of June 2008.
The specialists had their first opportunity to share views and concerns on 160 repatriated Moldovan minors . The questions of how trafficking in children can be better prevented and what kind of actions authorities need to do to better protect children victims were discussed during the show.
Trafficking in children is one of the gravest social risks for Moldovan children. Usually, children arrive in countries of destination, accompanied by parents or relatives to show respect for national law. In reality, children are being exposed to terrible living conditions, illegal work and health risks.
This situation is most often unknown by parents in Moldova. In response to it, “national authorities need to seriously consider the protection and repatriation procedures to be applied by the institutions from Russia, Ukraine and Moldova. In this way, children could be guaranteed of immediate protection, identification of their families and responsible care for assisted return and reintegration” Anonina Comerzan, Transnational Action Coordinator of FACT stated. Parents and children are not well-informed about the risks abroad. Moldovan social specialists need to be better informed and efforts for awarness-raising campaigns are also necessary, especially at community level. The cooperation between the countries of destination and origin need to be increased and bilateral collaboration agreements established. [NG]
