Romania Romanian bill on pedophiles sparks debate on human rights

‘SETimes’ reports that a bill in parliament aiming to curb child sexual abuse via chemical castration caused a widespread social debate about safety vs. human rights. Amid a significant increase of sexual abuse cases against children, Romania’s Senate voted on November 28th in favour of a draft law to chemically castrate pedophiles. The law prompted a heated societal debate unlike any other. If approved, Romania will become the first country in Southeast Europe to pass such a law. The measure is already used in EU countries, with the Czech Republic adopting the most severe punishment — physical castration for pedophiles whose victims died.
