Europe Stateless Roma: no documents - no rights
17 Aug 2010 |
Human Rights Commissioner Hammarberg addressed the issue of the several thousands of Roma who do not have birth certificates of citizenship documentation – and thus have no access to health, education, or other rights. He mentions specifically Kosovo, Slovenia and Serbia as countries where conflict or restrictive citizenship laws excluded Roma. He also points out the case of stateless children who are forcibly evicted – and calls on host governments to grant them citizenship.
