Ireland State's report on children 'overdue'

9 Jan 2012 | child rights

‘Irish Times’ reports that the ombudsman for Children, Emily Logan has urged the Government not to allow its focus on the economy lead to the neglect of its commitment to children. Ms. Logan said when Ireland ratified the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child in 1992, it signed up to making five-yearly progress reports. The country however failed to report on what progress, if any, has been made in the area of children’s rights in 2006 and it was given until 2009 to do by the UN Committee on Children’s Rights. The report still have not been filed so it’s well overdue and needs to be addressed.
