Germany Tenth anniversary: achievements and next steps

Berlin, Germany: Twenty-fourth meeting of the UN World Tourism Organisation Task Force for the Protection of Children in Tourism was held on the 13 March, 2009. The meeting gave an opportunity to the organisation to assess the last ten years achievements and plan the next steps. First, the follow-up steps and final recommendations of the World Congress III Against sexual exploitation of Children and Adolescent in Rio were introduced. The final declaration will be published by the end of March 2009.
Some national initiatives in the framework of the International Campaign to protect Children from Exploitation in Travel and Tourism launched in November 2008 were also presented in the meeting such as the ‘Dial 100’ campaign in Brazil or the Campaign against sexual exploitation of children in tourism in Italy. By the tenth anniversary of the Code of Conduct for the protection of children against Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism, the Code achieved to raise awareness among industry and travelers and increase the number of monitored companies and reporting.
