The whole delegation of Terre des hommes in Albania, together with the Program Manager for South Eastern Europe from Tdh HQ and the Regional Child Protection Officer, participated to a workshop to determine the strengths and the weaknesses of the present modus operandi, and propose solutions and resources to overcome the future challenges. To build an effective Child Protection Safety Net (TACTCPSN), the emphasis was made on the reinforcement of the child protection units active at local level, as one of the mean to prevent vulnerable to fall under exploitation and trafficking schemes. The role of the schools’ psychologists, one of the most recent social reforms of the Albanian ministry of education, is also considered as a major step to the strengthening of local child protection mechanisms.

A part of the new 3-year phase will concentrate as well on the empowerment of community leaders, organizing activities for the children from the Roma and Balkan-Egyptian minorities. Simultaneously, the Albanian team of Tdh will start to develop partnerships with residential institutions to develop mechanisms of prevention of abuse within the structures, supported by auditing tools. These works will be based on “Keeping Children Safe” toolkit, created by a great alliance of child rights NGOs in Europe. The kit will be translated and adapted to the Albanian context. [VT]
