Europe UN study calls for international ban on organ trafficking
11 Oct 2009 |
- ‘Economic Times’ reports that a joint study conducted by the UN and the Council of Europe found that five to ten per cent of kidney transplants performed annually are the result of trafficking. According to the study the main reason for trafficking of body parts is the lack of procurement systems from deceased sources, lack of access to transplantation centres and overall shortage of organs.
