Comment: On May 11’2010, the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow hosted the representatives of the Tdh’s Delegation to the Republic of Moldova. The Tdh’s Delegate – Roman Poznanski and the coordinators of the FACT Transnational Action’s project (FACT TA) held a meeting with the Council president of the Moldovan Diaspora Congress Mr. Pavel Kalinin.

During the meeting Mr. Roman Poznanski made a presentation of the FACT TA project based on its three year experience in protection and return of abandoned, exploited or trafficked Moldovan children in the Russian Federation (RF). Actually the FACT TA project is looking forward to extend its action to Ukraine.

The Russian Federation and Ukraine continue to be the main countries of destination for exploited and trafficked children of Moldova. That is why the FACT TA project directs its efforts to the creation of the protection networks for unaccompanied Moldovan children, identified as being at risk or victims of exploitation and/or trafficking in some regions of the Russian Federation (RF) and Ukraine.

As regarding the activities in the Republic of Moldova, the Tdh Delegation applies every efforts in order to improve the quality’s standards, used by the state and specialized agencies regarding the protection and the reintegration of Moldovan children.

Mr. Kalinin highlighted that among many problems that Moldovan children face in the Russian Federation, there is a big problem regarding children abandoned by Moldovan citizens in the Russian maternity hospitals. Women interned in hospitals often have no money, no insurance policy and that is why it is difficult to identify them. Children left at the hospitals represent a group of risk of becoming victims of trafficking. The Council President highlighted the importance to combine efforts in order to prevent such cases and to overcome this problem.

During the meeting, the counterparts touched on many other problems in the area of child protection, exchanged their concerns and agreed that there is a need of a permanent collaboration framework in order to give the proper assistance and protection to Moldovan children identified in the Russian Federation.
