Kosovo The capital city once again is overflowing with beggars.
January 1, 2005
PISHTINE, 16 February – So many young children survive day by day by begging, and believe that this is what they are meant to do and that this is the only way for survive. Civilians of Kosovo need to be aware that they are feeding child exploitation by giving money to beggars on the streets.
Comment: The Kosovar society needs to be alerted that they are paralyzing the future of these children beggars, and not realizing that their kindness by giving money is actually destroying these children’s future, as also argued by the representative of the Community Police of Kosovo, Isa Xhemajli.
The deportation on the 6th of February 2009 looks as if it has not been the right solution found by the authorities (read related news here) since the Kosovo streets are once again flooded with beggars, mostly children. The Kosovo Police / Community Police Section (member of Task Force group) informed Tdh about the deportation process, and the TACT team followed up the deportation course of action. The total number of deported persons were 38, from them 23 children and 15 adults. Immediately Tdh Kosovo informed Tdh Albania team about this process in order to organize the departure / transport from the Kosovo border to the place of origin (Tirana, Fier, Elbasan and Kukës).
It is in the plan of the Kosovo Police to organize awareness campaigns for the wide public. More Kosovo Institutions should take this matter seriously and organize or support such campaigns to tackle the exploitation of children through begging. It is important that the Kosovar community is sensitized on the consequences of begging and work together towards preventing this phenomenon.
