Comment: Pristine, Kosovo: Violence is a leading trend in Kosovo schools reports ‘Kosova Sot’. Avoidance of uniforms by the students, the absence of barriers and lack of security as a result brings violence in a place where children are supposed to be safe and learning. It should be a worrisome phenomenon not only for the authorities, but also for parents that have no idea whether their children are going to school or to a battle field.

The debate in “28 nëntori” school located in Prishtina with the slogan “violence generates violence” was organized on behalf of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology together with other ministries. At last, actions and initiatives have begun to find solutions to this problem.

Terre des hommes delegation in Kosovo on April 15, 2009, assisted a Task Force member f rom the police in organizing another debate concerning violence in schools. The participants included Task-Force members (Community Police, Center for Social Work, Probation Service and Municipal Directorate of Education) representatives of the “28 nëntori” school, professors and psychologists, and 50 students.

Discussions took place between the students and the representatives on the topics of carrying cold arms at school by the students, conflict, and violence. The students of this school as well expressed a great deal of concern with the environment where they are studying.
